Popular dance app TikTok is trending all throughout the world with billions of downloads. TikTok is involved with lots of drama at this moment in time. It all started when President Donald Trump accused TikTok of stealing citizens information and giving it to the Chinese government. TikTok decided to fight back and decline the allegations. Trump then began to gather evidence against the company in order to ban TikTok. People believe that Bytedance, the company behind TikTok, is responsible for the information accusations. Trump refuses to believe that, so he is still going after TikTok. However, by then TikTok was able to create a plan. They offered to sell their company to Microsoft so that it would be an American company and wouldn't have to get shut down. Trump refused to accept the offer due to Microsoft still owning a web search in China, suggesting that they could be associating with the Chinese government. TikTok at that point could no longer stand it and is now suing Trump. As of now TikTok is still up and running, but who knows what the future holds.

By: K. Anderson Ready. Set. Go! Cross country season has officially started. The runners have been training all summer long and are faster than ever. Returners are excited for the season and newcomers are as well. However, they realized they had more competition this year and needed to step up their game. “I think I am going to have a little more competition this year,” sophomore Grant Sims said. “One runner has proven he can keep up with me.” While some runners are worried about competition, others are simply excited to start cross country again. “I am so excited to start cross country races again this year,” sophomore Lily Gronwald said. “This is my favorite time of year, and I’m happy that I am going to be able to run with my team and for the school.” There are many reasons to be excited for cross country starting again; however, some of the runners believe that not everything is going to be fun. “I’m least excited about the time we wake up for morning practices,” freshman Mackenzie Sims said. “The times they have to wake up could be hard for them.¨ The first meet was Saturday August, 29, and the results were as follows: the girls placed 2nd, bringing home their first award of the season. Lily came in 9th, earning his first spot in the top ten. The boys did well individually. Grant Sims finished in 2nd place. This race was a great way to start off the season. By: C. Creech & C. Lawless Volleyball is off to a great start with two new coaches, Coach Keasa Bonds and Coach Crystal Mills. The coaches are thrilled to be coaching at Elysian Fields High School and can’t wait to see what will happen in the future.
“This group of girls we are coaching this year are very special,” Bonds said. “[They are] one of the most athletic teams I have ever coached. I am loving EF. In the future, I expect a successful volleyball program. From the varsity all the way down to my middle school teams.” Not only are the new coaches loving this group of girls but also their attitudes and hard work. “These groups of girls are great,” Mills said. “I couldn’t ask for a better group of girls. They work hard and have a will to want to be great at what they do, and that’s all a coach could ask for. Coaching at a new school is going really good. The teachers, community, and staff have welcomed us with open arms. I feel like this made the transition very easy. I want to build a program that the future alumni and community can be proud to say they were a part of something great, whether it be playing or spectating EF girls basketball.” Not only are the coaches are very excited about this season, the seniors athletes are as well. “These girls are great,” senior Asia Neff said. “I enjoy playing with people that push me to do better and people I consider to be family. I am excited for my senior year, and in a way I'm not. I'm just not ready to move on from Elysian Fields. I've made some good memories with some good people. I expect to BEAT TATUM and [Waskom] and I expect us to DOMINATE this season!!!” Even with newcomers, the seniors and the rest of the team are mentally ready for the rest of the season. “This group of girls are very coachable,” senior Christen Smith said. “Each practice and each game we are getting better as a whole. We all have that hungry mentality, that refuse to lose mindset. I am very excited for my senior year. My teammates are just as intense and engaged into the game as I am, so this year will definitely be fun. Coach Bonds has the energy of all of us put into one; she keeps us on our toes. In the future, I expect a really competitive team and for each girl to have a driven mindset to get better each day. The season is just starting, and I can already see improvement in myself, my teammates, and even in the younger classmen because we WANT to get better.” This volleyball season, with new coaches and a new group of seniors, is going to be an excellent year! By: C. Creech & C. Lawless Stressed. Overwhelmed. Blessed. Due to the spread of the corona virus, the school rules are a lot different then what we are used to. As students are adapting to the new ways, the staff is very proud of how all of the students are handling the situation. Many feel blessed to be able to go to school and have a safe learning environment.
Even though things aren’t the way some planned, many are still able to enjoy the school year and adjust to the new rules as they come towards us. “The students are doing good with the one way hallways, masks and doing what they are supposed to do, which makes my job easy,” Assistant Principal Kenneth Wall said. “I wish that we didn’t have Covid-19 and that we were able to start the school year as normal. It was pretty hard to prepare the school for everything that the CDC and the TEA wanted. Every time you would see something from CDC and TEA, it was changing and is still willing to change. The most important thing is that parents and students trust us to keep them safe.” Through many meetings and summer preparing, the staff was finally able to relax and let the students do what the staff expects. “The students are adapting very well,” Principal Jack Parker said. “I wish this would hurry up and end and they could find a vaccine. It was pretty difficult to prepare. Most of the summer was spent preparing and meeting to find the best plan from the CDC and TEA.” Students started their first day with smiles on their face and a positive attitude, which is most important. “I feel like the students are doing very well, and doing everything that they are told to do and having good attitudes,” Counselor Katilyn Woodley said. “I wish we didn’t have to wear masks so I could see their smiling faces. It was more difficult than normal because of the new restrictions and we haven’t seen the students in awhile. It was okay because we are excited that the students are back. We will do whatever we need to do to get the students back, and GO JACKETS!” Most students know how hard the teachers and staff worked to get the school safe and are glad to be back in a safe environment. |
