This year’s volleyball season began on August 1. Varsity has played three games and won one of them. JV-A has played two games and won one. JV-B has played two and is still is looking for their first win. “I think the season so far has started off good, especially at the Eustace tournament,” senior Varsity team captain Sammy Spears said. “I think we found our rhythm.” Every team always has their strengths and weaknesses. “Some strengths of ours is definitely our love for each other at the end of the day,” junior JV-A team captain Corrina Hall said. “A weakness of ours would be our confidence at times.” Before every game, the teams always find a way to get their spirits up and really get into it. “At the tournament, we got into the locker room, and we started to get hype,” freshman JV-B team captain Mary Katheryn Dillon said. “I think that works best for us. Also we have cheers we do for certain things; it definitely helps a lot when there is an amazing crowd helping us out!” In the beginning, things weren’t so smooth, but that’s part of the learning process. “This season started off a little rough, but I think that we are buckling down and learning to enjoy volleyball and play it at the same time!” Corrina said. “Things won’t come easy, but it also won’t come hard unless we make it hard.” In the end, the teams will keep progressing as the season goes on, and they continue to make Elysian Fields proud.

This year, many new teachers and coaches have been hired. Coach Blake Walls and Coach Bryarious Anderson are two of the newest teachers. This is Walls’ and Anderson’s first teaching job, and they love working here so far. “It's awesome to be working at Elysian Fields,” Walls said. “[I] couldn't be happier!” Walls and Anderson have lives out of school like everyone else, and they both have their own hobbies and interests. Walls enjoys playing video games and lifting weights, though Anderson spends his free time in a different way. “[I enjoy] playing golf and traveling,” Anderson said. Walls and Anderson are also new coaches for our football team. Anderson is an offensive line coach while Walls coaches the defensive line. “It is an amazing feeling to be coaching and working with the football team,” Walls said. “I can't thank Coach Ford enough for the opportunity.” By: A. Many wonderful teachers have arrived and are becoming part of the EFHS family. Among the new teachers are geometry teacher Heather Allen. She seems to be really enjoying her first days here. “ I love it!” Allen said. “ I love to be able to do math now. I used to be a computer teacher at the elementary, but now I can finally do what I’ve been waiting for, math. I’m really excited to get to know my new students.” Another new member of the family is Coach Clay Brown. “ I am really looking forward to the rest of this year,” Brown said.“I think it’s going to be great. My biggest goal is not only to expand my students’ minds, but also to help them discover their true potential.” Brown graduated from Texas A&M with a bachelors, and Allen graduated from ETBU. “I also graduated from EF,” Allen said. “I’ve been here most of my life, and I’m proud to call it my home.” By : C. It’s that time of year again! Football season is here, and the boys have been working hard since summertime to get prepared for the season. The team’s first game is coming up on August 31. They had a scrimmage against Grand Saline on August 17. They won the scrimmage and are ready to play the other teams in district games. “As far as being able to face the challenges by other teams, I think we are absolutely capable of doing so,” Coach Blake Walls said. The team tends to work hard every day, whether it’s in the morning, afternoon, or evening. They push themselves to the brink, and the coaches couldn’t ask for more from the boys. “Everyone is 100% all in on this team,’’ Walls said. “We’re ready to strap up and hold the rope!” The boys don’t quit when things get hard. They work together through everything like a family. With support from one another, they look forward to the season. “Our guys are ready to prove themselves and have the ability to take on anyone that lines up across from them,” Walls said. The boys are excited and are ready for late Friday nights and the competition of the game. They plan to go all out with everything they have in them for this year. “I feel great about the season,” Walls said. “We have an awesome group of guys, and the 31st can’t get here soon enough!” By: H.
